Lee, Illinois is a small village located in Lee County, with a population of just over 300 residents. Despite its size, Lee has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s when it was first settled by European immigrants. The village was officially incorporated in 1853 and named after General Robert E. Lee.
One unique fact about Lee is that it is home to the historic Lee United Methodist Church, which was built in 1872 and is still in use today. The church is a beautiful example of Gothic Revival architecture and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Another interesting feature of Lee is its proximity to the Franklin Creek State Natural Area, a 882-acre park that offers hiking trails, fishing, and picnicking opportunities. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, foxes, and a wide range of bird species.
In addition to its natural beauty, Lee is also known for its strong sense of community and small-town charm. The village hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including a Fourth of July parade and a Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
