De Pue, Illinois is a small village located in Bureau County, with a population of just over 1,000 residents. The village was founded in the late 1800s and was named after one of its early settlers, Antoine De Pue.
One unique fact about De Pue is that it is home to the De Pue Lake, a man-made lake that covers over 200 acres and is a popular spot for fishing and boating. The lake was created in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps and is stocked with a variety of fish, including bass, catfish, and bluegill.
Another interesting aspect of De Pue is its rich mining history. The village was once a thriving mining community, with coal mines operating in the area from the late 1800s until the mid-1900s. Today, visitors can still see remnants of the mining industry, including old mine shafts and equipment.
De Pue is also known for its annual Catfish Festival, which takes place every summer and features live music, food vendors, and a catfish cook-off. The festival draws visitors from all over the region and is a highlight of the summer season in De Pue.
